At Woodhouse Opticians we don’t think children’s eyecare should be secondary.

This is why we have a wide selection of children’s frames as we regularly dispense children as young as 6 months right through to teenage years.

As a practice we have a long history of collaboration with Blackpool Victoria Hospital, oftentimes we work closely with the hospital ophthalmology department both referring and receiving patients into our care, once these children have been dispensed and discharged many of them go on to become lifelong patients of ours.

Our expertise lies in helping children with special facial characteristics including children with downs syndrome and children with behavioural idiosyncrasies.

Ophthalmologists from Blackpool Victoria Hospital visit our practice to learn how we carry out dispenses, understand the products we choose and why they are important and recommend their patients come to us as the first port of call in the area. In addition to this we have children from as far as Manchester Eye Hospital and Royal Preston. We often liaise with labs across the country to create bespoke modified frames for children and adults alike with special facial characteristics and ocular challenges.

As one of our specialties is fitting frames for babies and children we carry a range of specialised children’s frames with brands such as Tomato Eyewear and Erins World who specifically design frames for children with downs syndrome. In addition we carry a range of ‘unbreakable’ children’s frames perfect for active (or clumsy!) children. As well as a wide range of children’s frames we also offer contact lens fittings for children, there is no minimum age limit for contact lens wearers, if you think they might be the right fit for your child pop into the practice or give us a ring to chat about your options!
