Our Community

We believe that businesses should be part of the communities they serve.
That’s why we’re happy to be involved in supporting others in as many ways as we can.

Highfield Road
since 1962

Woodhouse Opticians has been a staple on Highfield road, in the heart of South Shore for over 65 years.

Thanks to this we are committee members of Highfield Business Group which is working hard to ensure the area remains a bustling, busy and caring part of Blackpool.

Local Schools and Colleges

As proud members of our Fylde Community, we get involved with schools and colleges as much as we can.

Reflecting our environmental commitment, we regularly sponsor eco awards for local schools and colleges. Our director, Sukie, takes this one step further being a school governor for Thames Primary School and former governor of Blackpool Sixth Form College.

Being involved in local education and community is a staple of Woodhouse Opticians.

Charity

Every year Woodhouse Opticians picks a charity to champion and fundraise for throughout the year.

Instead of charging for the repair service we offer, we’ll encourage those who want to to make a donation to charity. We keep a collection box right on our reception desk for this – and for anyone else who wants to help.

In addition to our charity of the year, we also ‘flash fundraise’ for many charities throughout the year, last year we participated in Christmas Jumper day (raising money for children throughout the UK), our dispensing optician Lynsey raised money for Macmillan cancer support by competing in HYROX London ExCel, we took part in the social media campaign for World Mental Health Day to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation, and we participated in Eye Health Week by launching a week long social media campaign to raise awareness about the importance of eye health.

Our first ‘flash charity’ this year is Macmillan Cancer Support, both Lynsey and Steve are competing in HYROX Glasgow to raise money for this amazing cause, go Team Woodhouse!

Here are some of the year long charities we’ve supported in the past:

  • In 2022 and 2023 we worked with Home-Start Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, a charity that provides support to families during their toughest times.
  • In 2024 we supported CRY Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity which offers help and support to those affected by sudden cardiac death in young people.
  • In 2025 we renewed our support of CRY
  • This year we are fundraising for our friend Trudi Burgess who has been left paralysed after a brutal attack by her partner. You can find a link here to her go fund me and read her story here.
