Sustainability

Sustainability rests at the core of Woodhouse Opticians and everything that we do, and we’re always looking for more sustainable methods of doing what we do.

High street businesses like ours have a duty, not just to ensure they give great, value-for-money service to customers, but to lead the way in actively playing a part in protecting the environment.

Thanks to our commitment to sustainability we have been the honoured recipients of many sustainability awards. Look below to some of the amazing awards and certifications we have won!

Not satisfied? Here’s some of the ways we stay sustainable right from what kind of toilet paper we use to the etchings of our lenses!

  • We recycle contact lenses, frames, and lenses, as well as all of our cardboard and as much plastic as we can 
  • We have a small compost and a kitchen garden fit with herbs, apple trees and bird feeders
  • We seek and employ local products and services to reduce transport costs.
  • We aim to eliminate unnecessary and inefficient use of Woodhouse Opticians owned motor vehicles, and wherever possible, that of other vehicles associated with Woodhouse Opticians.
  • We use energy efficient products wherever practical, and monitor usage to achieve minimum energy consumption!
  • We have reduced our packaging as much as possible and we seek to buy re-cycled and re-cyclable paper products 
  • We interrogate every supplier/contractor and make sure they have at least a basic level of sustainable commitment 
  • We regularly sponsor eco awards for local colleges and schools 
  • We maximise use of electronic communication and information storage as an alternative to paper 
  • We use cleaning materials which are environmentally friendly wherever possible
  • We offer pre-loved frames and cases to give frames and cases a new life (not to mention being a cheaper option for our patients!)
